Did you know that Celiac Disease affects at least 3 million people? I didn’t.
Or that you can have Celiac Disease and not even be aware of it? Uh, no.
If you are not aware of it, you are susceptible to a whole slew of other autoimmune disorders. What!
These are all facts from The University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center. Facts that I came to learn shortly after my youngest daughter was diagnosed Celiac, a few months after her first birthday. Honestly, I was not aware of Celiac Disease until it was an “option” during the time we were going through the process of finding out what was going on with her. A process of which was relatively short, compared to many other stories that I have read.
We were lucky I guess, in some ways. We found out throughout the span of 4-5 months, even though that time felt much longer. The fact that she was diagnosed so young, lowers her chances of other autoimmune problems. At the time, I didn’t care. I was much more focused on “fixing” my daughter. Can this be fixed?
My biggest reason for starting this blog is to continue learning about Celiac Disease. If along the way I am able to help others who may go through the same obstacles, even better! My advice today, don’t stop asking questions until you get a resolution!
